Liquid-liquid interface technique was employed to prepare CdS films of nanoparticles through self-assembly at the interface. During preparation, anacardic acid was employed to reduce the surface tension between oil and water. The reduction of surface tension at the interface resulted into quicker deposition of films of nanomaterials at the interface. The influence of different reaction parameters such as temperature, deposition time, and concentration of precursor and anacardic acid have been established. The concentration of 0.02mM anacardic acid; with a deposition temperature of 20○C and deposition time of 24hrs were the optimal condition for the formation of stable CdS films of nanomaterials. The nanomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and UV-Vis. The XRD showed broad peak with cubic structure characteristics of CdS nanocrystallites. The SEM images showed porous and rough surface morphology while UV-Vis showed a blue shift with band gap increasing from 2.4eV to 2.58eV due to quantum confinement effect.en_US
