The scarcity of natural grave materials in Kigoma region forced the use of stabilization of the laterite soil as the alternative material in construction of roads. Literite being one of the soil obtained in Kigoma region; lacks most of the desirable engineering properties, hence needs to be improved by stabilization using lime and cement. It was the purpose of this study to evaluate the effect of lime and current on strength properties of laterite soil from Kigoma region. The unconfirmed Compression strength test were conducted with varying amount of lime and cement in three curring periods, namely; 7 days,. 14 days and 28 days. The physical properties of the soil before and after stabilization were determined using the standard test mostly based on standard specification for mad works and laboratory tests methods of the Ministry of Works (Tanzania). The chemical; composition and mineral analysis were determined in order to see the interface reaction of lime or cement during stabilization. Further, on strength, the increase of the lime and cement increases the strength and the longer the curring time the strength. In this study lime has been proved to more effectively stabilize the laterine soil material for use as modified material for road construction compared to cement.en_US
