dc.description.abstractThis study assessed risk management strategies in the Aviation Industry construction projects in Tanzania by citing examples from Julius Nyerere International Airport construction projects. Data collection included a combination of primary and secondary sources. The study used both quantitative and qualitative techniques which played useful complimentary roles. The quantitative methods were used to obtain information of various aspects of interest to the study, whereas the qualitative methods provided a means of exploring perceptions and gaining deeper insights on specific issues. Questionnaire and interview approach was applied to elicit respondent's opinion. The sample size included seven groups from various organizations among which 66 questionnaires were distributed, 35 of which were returned for analysis. The study revealed that major risk factors affecting airport development and growth include financial and technological change risks, which, if not managed properly will needless costing the organization. Julius Nyerere International Airport construction projects are affected by financial and technological changes. Financial changes caused shortage of plants and equipment, and inadequate airport infrastructure and facilities maintenance. On the other hand, technological change resulted in frequent investments in infrastructure maintenance and training the work force to cope with new technology. The measures taken to combat the risks included planning and implementing risk response as a strategy to overcome risks and fulfilling project objectives and goals. The strategies used were to avoid risk, to transfer risk and or to accept it. In avoiding a risk, one has to find a way of preventing its occurrence or terminating a project by use of risk management software.en_US
