The study aimed at assessing the operations and competitiveness of Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA). The study employed case study strategy whereby data collection was mainly done through primary and secondary data sources, data collection methods such as interviews, structured questions and documentary review were employed. Analysis of the collected data was done through Statistical Package for Social Sciences and Microsoft Excel. Findings revealed that there was lack of financial support that help to encourage competitiveness of JNIA. The number of passengers processed at JNIA was low, indicating that the airport is not efficient enough especially compared to number of passengers processed at Jomo Kenyata International Airport (JKIA). The study found out that Nairobi JKIA is a great one in East and Central Africa. It also revealed that JNIA has lower carrying capacity that JKIA, which makes it less competitive. Basing on available findings, it is recommended that there is need to extend and improve the runway, consider extending the taxiway to the new threshold of runways and make changes to the terminal building to allow smoother and faster flow of passengers. Also uplift level of checked-in and arriving passengers by improving the air conditioning, toilet facilities and other facilities in the terminal to cope with peak hours of passenger numbers.TAOA prepares a business case that seeks membership agreement to it: Furthermore TCAA should take an initiative with the Fair Competition Commission to agree on how competition rules imposed by their respective status should be applied in the aviation market.en_US
