This study focused on assessment of electronic waste management in Dar es Salaam city, Tanzania. The city contains high concentrations of trade and other services and manufacturing compared to other parts of Tanzania. Electronic waste contains highly toxic substances, such as Lead and mercury. Disposal or recycling of discarded equipment can bring severe health and environmental hazards without the right health and safety measures. The aim was to assess e-waste management in Dar es Salaam city; with interest of understanding of the disposal of end of life appliances, which include the awareness, convenience and incentives impact on the collection of e-waste; paying special attention on how electronic waste is managed. The research was aimed at assessing e-waste management in Dar es Salaam city with interest to assess the existing e-waste management, to identify problems associated with e-waste management and to recommend on the effective ways of managing the e-waste. The study adapted a qualitative research approach; and data were collected through structured questionnaires. Findings revealed that Dar es Salaam city has no proper ewaste management scheme. All solid wastes are treated the same without prior separation. E-waste is discarded together with household rubbish. It is recommended that separation of wastes from the source will make it easier to manage e-waste together with adoption and implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Finally, e-waste can be properly disposed without harming animals, humans and the environment.en_US
