Abstract

The problem of poor maintenance of electromechanical facilities in public water supply is critical especially for District Towns, Small Towns and National Water Projects. Efforts have been made to overcome the problem but the status of maintenance is still poor. This research aimed at determining the status of maintenance practice of electromechanical facilities in public water supply entities in Tanzania, of which Questionnaires were used to obtain data, out of sixty five distributed questionnaires, fifty three responded and provided information for data analysis. The research identified Seventeen [17] maintenance performance drivers and thirteen [13] strategies for maintenance improvement. Furthermore the research found out the status of maintenance resources in PWSEs is poor. The research concluded that the status of maintenance performance in PWSEs is poor and need intensive remedial actions. From the research findings, the study recommended that the PWSEs should adopt and implement the identified maintenance success factors and strategies. Furthermore the research recommended that the Ministry of Water should facilitate water entities to improve maintenance practice.
