Water damage is one of the major factors causing premature failure of asphalt concrete pavements. This study addresses the extent of the problem in Tanzania. it investigates the effect of water entering asphalt concrete pavement during and after construction. It also examines the effects of using aggregates with initial absorbed water (moisture] during asphalt concrete production. It father identifies ways of minimising moisture damage, and a so checks the effectiveness of lime in reducing water susceptibility to bituminous mixes. A variety of methods used to assess the potential for moisture damage are reviewed. Advantages and disadvantages of the methods are discussed. ASTM D4123 test is used in this research as described in the repeated load indirect tensile test of the ELEUMMATTA equipment. Materials used for mix preparation were granite and limestone aggregates with bitumen pen 80100 as a mineral binder. These materials are commonly used for construction of paved roads in Tanzania. Conditioning was done by saturating the mix specimens at a range of 55 to 80% followed by heating and cooling cycles reelecting the Tanzanian environment.en_US
