The production of iron oxide pellets of adequate quality is significant economic problem. In the present work the effect of additive, grain size of the charge material and the sintering temperatures on the quality of the iron ore pellets his been studied. However, the work was divided into two parts. They first part involved investigation on the influence of additives and grain size of the charge on the properties of the produced pellets. In this case, enriched iron ore together with small additions of lime, bentonite, coal and water were used in the production of green pellets. The pellets were then fired at 1220°C in the presence of atmospheric air, and the final products were tested for physical and chemical properties. The findings were studied and are discussed in Chapter 5.In these investigations, additives of the order 1.5% lime, 1.0% bentonite, 0.5 -0.7% coal and 8.0% water have been found to give sintered iron ore pellets of desirable quality. In addition, fired pellets made using iron ore of grain size less than 63 um displayed better metallurgical properties. In the second part of this study, the effect of sintering’ temperatures on the quality of fired pellets was investigated. Green pellets of similar compositions were fired in the presence of atmospheric air for one hour. The temperatures used ranged from 600°C to, 1350°C.The products were allowed to coal and tested, and the findings were then studied and are discussed in Chapter 5. In this study, it is found that fired pellets at 1250°C—1270c7C displayed desirable metallurgical characteristics.en_US
