Abstract
This study confined itself to the assessment of Management of Downtime for Automated Teller Machines Network the case of CRDB Bank PLC. It aimed to investigate the effects of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) components on management of ATMs downtime, to determine the effects of ATMs downtime and to determine the effective ways of managing the ATM downtime. Primary and Secondary data from CRDB Bank PLC were used. Descriptive analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Pareto Distribution analysis were used. The findings revealed that for each year as from 2011 to 2014, Card Reader Fatal contributed more than any other component in ATM downtime followed by Cash Handler and Rej Bin, which were also the largest contributors of loss. The ANOVA brought results with the F value of 4.67, which indicates that the ATM components have different statistical contribution to the ATM downtime p  0.0001. This study concludes that, the CRDB Bank ATMs availability or uptime was high with an average of 90% while downtime was having an approximate mean of about 10%. ATMs availability or uptime were noted to be increasing with time (years) whereas downtime was decreasing with time which implied that bank performance has been improved with increase in time. This study recommends that banks should invest more on how to reduce Card Reader Fatal and Cash Handler problems as these were the highest contributors of ATMs downtime. Having few Card Reader Fatal and Cash Handler problems will ensure customers to have more time to receive cash in ATMs hence more profits to banks.
