| dc.description.abstract | This study assessed the operational performance of the New Pangani Falls power plant from 2010 to 2012. The study utilized both secondary and primary data. Although the main sources were secondary data, personal interviews were used to supplement the secondary data. The secondary data included generation reports from the plants. New Pangani Falls was chosen as a case study and Hale and Nyumba ya Mungu were used as benchmarks in this study. Both qualitative and quantitative tools of analysis were employed to test the hypotheses. The key performance indicators covering the overall performance of the New Pangani Falls Power Plant were identified and assessed. Performance was evaluated using measures such as generation cost, plant efficiency, productivity, effectiveness, availability, and load demand. Findings indicate that, on average, the New Pangani Falls plant has outperformed the other two Plants, followed by Hale and Nyumba ya Mungu. Performance improvement is contributed by less time maintenance frequency per year and almost no plant breakdown incidence because of its newness, availability of spares, competent Pangani Hydro System and management, employees, good marketing strategies and number of competitors available in the market. | en_US |
