Abstract
This study is an attempt to make a critical analysis of the Law and Practice of Administration of Estates in Tanzania Mainland, with regard to Widows. Chapter one is an introduction to this study. It includes among other things different laws applicable in the administration of estates the statement of the problem, objectives and hypotheses. It also includes review of literature, the theoretical framework and the methodology. Chapter two is devoted on Customary Laws of inheritance. This law is discussed to analyse how inheritance is affected under customary law. Whether it dispenses justice or not. Also it analyses the position of the widow as the result of applying this law. Chapter three deals with Islamic Laws of Inheritance. How inheritance is distributed under Islamic laws. In particular the share given to the widow by examining decided cases. Chapter four deals with data presentation and analysis. It covers field research information collected from the places visited. The conclusion which is drawn in chapter five is about recommendation and suggestions derived from the research conducted
