| dc.description.abstract | The study was conducted in two areas located in Morogoro and Kilosa districts having different bedrock types. This work was aiming at examining hydrogeological characteristics mainly the yield and chemistry of water of the groundwater bodies in order to understand the cause of erratic variation in yield and salinity values within the study area. The two study areas are characterized by three types of aquifers: the saprolitic, fractured saprolitic and unconsolidated sandy aquifers. The saprolitic aquifers are widespread in the Kilosa study area. The fractured saprolitic aquifers are found in few sites in the two study areas. The unconsolidated sandy aquifers have higher hydraulic conductivity than the other aquifer types. The erratic yield variation in both areas is caused by the variation in the thickness and hydraulic conductivity of the aquifer type. In the Morogoro study area, the yield values in saprolitic aquifers vary from 8.6 to 105.9 m3/day, with a mean value of 45.4 m3/day. For the unconsolidated sandy aquifers, the yield values range from 15.1 m3/day to 96 m3/day, with a mean value of 49.6 m3/day. For the Kilosa study area. | en_US |
