dc.description.abstract | A cross-sectional Community based study was conducted in Rombo district, during the month of September, 1994. The major aim of the study was to determine factors which are associated with contraceptive use in this district. The study sample consisted of 804 respondents of whom 458 were males and 346 were females. Data was generated, using structured interview schedule, which was administered by trained research assistants. Findings of the study revealed that the majority (90%) of the respondents were aware of modern contraceptive methods. Women were found to be better informed of these methods than men. Despite the observed high level of contraceptive awareness, use behaviour was found to be low. Communication between partners ought to be seriously considered as a focus of future family planning programmes. Men and women were found to differ in some aspects of decision making on fertility control matters. Results of the multiple logistic regression analysis showed that knowledge of specific contraceptive methods and sex were strong factors influencing use of a method of contraception. From these findings, the majority of people are now well aware of issues of family planning, efforts should be placed on quality of services. | en_US |
