Chemical studies on H. abyssinica (Oliv.) resulted in the isolation of obacunene and obacunoic acid, 13C-NMR spectra for obacunoic acid and obacunoneaximc were obtained and partially assigned. Substance C, isolated from H. abyssinica and S. maritima was found to be mainly saturated hydro-carbon and the structure of the major component is tentatively assigned. Another saturated hydro-carbon, substance D, was isolated from S. maritima together with the flavone, rutin. Ursolic acid and a highly unsaturated compound with formula C22H16O7 were obtained from Hoslundia opposita (Vahl.). The structure of the highly unsaturated compound is not elucidated.en_US
