Although communication is a vital asset in construction projects, the construction industry is yet to appreciate the importance of information and communication technology (ICT) in their daily operations. Most firms in developed countries have improved and also continue to increase their investment in ICT; this has boasted productivity within their construction industry and resulted in an increase in the quality and speed of work, financial controls, communications, and access to common data. In this study, the objective is to document and analyze ICT, its importance, obstacles and preconditions for an effective use by focusing on literatures and journals concerning communication in construction projects. Analysis of 325 questionnaires from construction firms on the level of ICT usage, its impact and adoption barriers in Kenyan construction sector found that there was a slight positive rate of ICT adoption by construction firms in Kenya. Consequently, ICT had a great impact based on efficiency of technical work, efficiency of administrative work, competition, employees demand, increase in design, increased productivity in general administration, project management and site management and productivity. Complex / fragmented industry, training professionals in ICT, lack of knowledge/awareness of available IT in construction industry and Integration and compatibility problems were highest ranked hindrance to ICT adoption environmental, financial, human, and technological factors respectively.en_US
