This study is centered at finding out how ICT and information management is practiced in ports in handling containers and its association to the containers' congestion. The general question guiding this study is whether there should be real and virtual placement of containers since with ICT, the two could be synchronized. The Case study Methodology was deployed in this study where a total of 120 questionnaires were administered with 108 responding positively whereas 12 of them proved to be unsuccessful. Findings of this study revealed that at the port of Dar es salaam there is limited deployment of ICT technology as it can be compared to other international ports of the world. Also the findings from the respondents suggested that the port should have a continuous improvement of the ICT systems that are in place so as to cope with the pace of development of ICT which is so fast. With a benchmarking of other international ports like ports of Hamburg-Germany, Hong Kong, Rotterdam, Singapore etc it is evident that the port is having the rationale that it should also invest in ICT infrastructures like these so as to compete internationally while providing high quality services. It is recommended that the port authority should embrace the ICT technology to the fullest through benchmarking so as to be able to appreciate its rewards. This will make the port among the best ports in the region in serving the central African land locked countries with the likes of Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda etc.en_US
