The impact of global economic crisis on the tourism sector in Tanzania

Abstract
This research was an attempt to examine the impact of the global economic crisis on the tourism sector in Tanzania. The study specifically intended to examine to which extent the crisis had an impact on the rate of employment on tourism sector in Tanzania Particularly in tour companies, examine the impact of the 2008-2009 global economic crisis on tourist arrival and to examine the impact of the crisis on government revenue compared to expected and previous years. Self administered questionnaire were used to collect data from tour operators in Tanzania on the rate of employment during the crisis. The data were later analyzed using SPSS. Statistical test were carried out through acronbach, the study used also secondary data to examine to what extent the crisis had on government revenue and tourist arrival. The finding of the research revealed that, global economic crisis exert a significant influence on tourism sector in Tanzania. Conclusively, it is evident than the study has a lesson on the future of the tourism sector that is, to concur such crisis the government should mobilize more resources on promoting domestic tourism to reduce dependence on international tourism, diversification of resource mobilization on promotion from the country which were mostly heat by the crisis to other potential market would also improve the tourism sector.
