Abstract
This study was conducted in Mwanza City administrative area. The study aimed at nvestigating climate change awareness of students and staff, and climate change mitigation strategies taken in secondary schools. The study employed descriptive design, together with quantitative and qualitative techniques of data collection. Data collection involved questionnaires. To the large extent, the format of questionnaires was a close ended so as to lead into specific answers; however in few cases, some questions in the questionnaires were open ended to let the respondents offer their opinions. Interviews were also conducted to pupils and teachers who from time to time are involved in environmental activities in their schools. Then, observations were used so as to link to what was happening in different school premises.Results were analyzed and discussed, and presented in form of texts, tables or figures for easy reading. It is concluded that students and staff in secondary schools have little awareness of climate change. It has been recommended to have intensive incorporation of environmental education containing climate change in secondary schools, re-introduce and improve school weather stations.
