dc.description.abstract | The total proton interaction cross-sections for the elements A2 (Z=13), Cu, Zn, Cd, In and Sn (29<z<50) at proton energies 22.2, 59.6 and 88.8 keV have been measured . The measurements for Cd and In at these energies have been carried out for first time. The corresponding photoelectric cross-sections have been to be in good agreement with their corresponding theoretical values available in the literature. For four measurements a good geometry set up was designed and used which, once set, remained fixed. It could be disturbed and reset for a new run. The detector system used consisted of a liquid nitrogen- cooled X-ray HPGe detector with effective area 0.5 cm2, crystal thickness 0.5 cm and Be window 2 mil thick (resolution approximately 188 eV at 5.9 keV of Mn Ka-line). The absorbers used were spectroscopically pure (99.9%). For our use we machined them into circular shapes each with a uniform thickness. The pulses from the detector, after shaping and proper amplification, were fed to a CANBERRA MCA model 8100 with 4096 channels, where the final spectra were recorded during a preset collection time. The collected counts were later on corrected for background counting’s and the analysis was done with great precision. | en_US |
