Influence of employees’ engagement on job satisfaction in private institutions : The Case of Vodacom Tanzania Limited

The aim of the study was to assess the influence of employees’ engagement on job satisfaction in private institutions. The study used a case of Vodacom Tanzania Limited. Specifically, the study identified level of employees’ engagement and job satisfaction. Also, the study established relationship between employee engagement and job satisfaction. The study also identified drivers of employees’ engagement in private institutions. The study used explanatory cross-sectional design and involved the use of questionnaires and interviews as the main tools for data collection. Descriptive and regression analyses were used in this study. The study revealed that employees in the visited institution were, generally, highly engaged. However, managers had high level of engagement followed by supervisors and lastly staff officers. According to the study, the main reasons for high level of engagement to these employees were that; they were given a performance feedback, they were informed what was expected from them, they were rarely distracted when performing their works, they were listened when they had a suggestion, they were given development opportunities and they were deciding themselves how and when to perform their jobs. The study found out that employees’ engagement positively influence job satisfaction. And lastly, the study found out that the drivers of employee engagement were regular general staff meeting, team working, professionalism acceptance, as well as proper communication of organization goals and objectives to employees. The study recommended that companies need to influence positive relationship between staff of all levels in order to influence the high level of employee engagement. Similar study should be conducted in other telecom companies in order to make generalization.
