The management of trust sustainability and evolution among members of Virtual Organizations whose collaboration is in progress is highly challenging in today's world of temporary consortiums. Virtual Organizations lack approaches related to assessment of rational trust, for the collaboration which is already in progress, because the base trust level acquired during virtual organizations formation is not guaranteed to remain constant over entire period of business execution. The primary objective this study was to develop mechanism, models and a system for supporting inter-organizational trust sustainability and evolution management. The study used experimental investigation into which trust value was manipulated depending on trust elements by means of a quality improvement paradigm. Data were collected through an online survey; and participant observation method in which the observer provided first hand involvement in the scenario, by triggering Trust Management system using some settings. The findings revealed that all five perspectives of trust are very useful in assessing trust sustainability and supporting virtual organizations to an undergoing evolution. Furthermore, rational assessment of trust sustainability and evolution is achieved through adoption of a standard deviation statistical model. The model is based on a measure of dispersion of trust values from mean trust value, to create standard interval limits for variation of individual member organization's trust value. Finally, it is revealed that Trust Sustainability and Evolution system is a tool for management of trust sustainability and evolution for virtual organizations, already in collaboration. The study draws the following two main conclusions: first, trust value and trust level acquired during the virtual organization formation, does change over the period of business execution. Second, assessment mechanism for trust sustainability and evolution of virtual organizations already in progress is achieved by using standard deviation model based on statistical methods. Lastly, an organization within a virtual organization can only be trusted if the variation of its trust value does not go beyond the target goals.en_US
