Abstract
This document is a study on public concern regarding quality of local and imported cement and reinforcement steel bars available in the local market in Tanzania. The study involved research question, literature review as well as physical testing that provided the physical properties and questionnaire that provided general view about feelings, opinion and perception of people regarding quality products. The test methods indicated by Tanzania Standards have been used to drive physical results, which were compared and analyzed. Respondents’ views from the questionnaires were also captured; SPSS and Microsoft Excel were used to analyze the data. The overall physical results show that products conform to the Tanzania Standard while public concern has shown that more than 84% of respondent agree on existence of substandard products in the market. The public have the feeling that there is low standardization knowledge available to implements of standards as well as manufactures, marketers, importers and users which are believed to affect most customers in extent of their preferences regarding cement and reinforcement steel bars happening in the construction industry. However, recommendation for raising awareness is necessary although public concern might have been a result of many factors, but due to time limitation the research might have not considered
