dc.description.abstractFor decades the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has been striving to combat (he problem of corruption, a universal phenomenon, and in the process it has employed various strategies, In spite of the efforts made to nip it, the scourge has persisted, ascending from low levels to high levels. Focusing on the role of the Prevention of Corruption Bureau in Tanzania, and the anti-corruption legal framework, this study seeks to address this situation. From a legal and political angle of view, the study highlights some of the major handicaps faced by the Bureau. Approach options to tackle the problem are also explored. The study is presented in the above context and is divided into six chapters. Chapter One provides for introductory matters necessary for the identification of the research problem and formulation of hypotheses the study. Chapter Two sets the context of the study. Chapter Three examines the anti-corruption efforts made and explores the possibility of controlling the problem. Chapter Four and Five form the crux and core of the study. While Chapter Four critically examines the role of the Bureau, Chapter Five looks into the anti-corruption legal framework and highlights key areas that need urgent review. Chapter Six concludes the dissertation by a summary of recommendations made in the course of discussion, emphasizing the view that with the right approach to the problem, and right legal and socio-political transformations, the scourge can be significantly controlled.en_US
