In this dissertation, we focused on the study of modelling the combined effect of buoyancy force and viscosity variation on blood flow through stenosed artery in the presence of hematocrit ratio due to erythrocytes concentration. We start with introduction to arterial blood flow, some definitions of terms and pictures are given in chapter one, together with statement of the problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study, research hypotheses and methodology. Chapter two reviews the literature. In chapter three we formulate the model. In chapter four we analyse the formulated model, and nondimensionalise the involved parameters before solving the problem using perturbation techniques. In chapter five, simulations are done using Matlab and graphical results are discussed for different parameter values. Chapter six gives concluding remarks. It was found that increasing the buoyancy parameter on blood flow leads to a decrease blood velocity and an increase of the blood temperature. An increase in the hematocrit ratio parameter corresponds to a decrease in blood velocity because concentration of erythrocytes in the blood has a strong influence on blood viscosity, and hence an increase in the resistance to flow. This in turn leads to a decrease in the blood velocity. Moreover, the decreased blood velocity in turn increases the magnitude of the sources term in the energy equation and hence leads to an increase in the blood temperature. However, as the stenotic height parameter increases, the blood velocity decreases and the blood temperature increases. Finally we have suggested future directions to extend the work done in this dissertation to obtain even better results of the models of blood flow in arteries.en_US
