This research examines freedom of movement of capital in the East African Community with special interest in Uganda as a partner state. The study has examined Uganda’s legal configuration and its compliance with the East African Community common market protocol with respect to free movement of capital. This study established that while there must be conformity of national laws with those of the EAC; this has not been achieved fully in respect of capital movement which casts doubt on the commitment of partner states to the aspirations of the community. The research has recognized that Uganda has made an effort to remove restrictions on movement of capital as required by the EAC common market protocol. However, some restrictions are yet to be removed so as to facilitate free movement of capital. The study has given an insight of the organization and functioning of the European Union as well as its Institutional as a Union with the purpose of bringing to light the different aspects that make it exceptional. The study recommends that Uganda conduct a periodic evaluation of the legal configuration regarding the movement of capital, shifts from reliance on merit-based decision- making to a disclosure approach before authorizing and investment, avails more information regarding of harmonization of domestic tax laws, and also enforces the notification mechanism as properly explained in the study.en_US
