dc.description.abstract | The voltage at the bus bar in Zanzibar Mtoni Substation sometimes reaches above the predetermined value of during light loading conditions. This caused a frequent tripping of the circuit breaker and thus interruption of power to consumers. The transmission line was represented with a nominal π model. The STATCOM dynamic range of was determined by considering the system fault level value at Tegeta Substation and a DC capacitor value of was evaluated. The STATCOM model applied three levels VSC that was synthesized with a Neutral Point Clamped configuration. Modified Park transformation matrix was applied in the VSC for the purpose of creating PWM pulse for switching the GTOs. MATLAB/Simulink R2010a version was used to simulate the proposed models of power network and STATCOM for the purpose of evaluating voltage at bus bar for different loading conditions. Simulation results revealed that, for the light load of before application STATCOM, the highest and lowest receiving end voltage were and respectively but after application STATCOM, the value were and respectively. In case of full load of before the application of STATCOM, the highest and lowest receiving end voltages were and respectively but after application of STATCOM, the values were and respectively. It could be concluded that, the STATCOM device had a capability of controlling the voltage to be within a tolerance of of the nominal system voltage at Zanzibar Mtoni Substation bus bar. | en_US |
