Obstetrics and gynaecology cases and commentaries

This dissertation which is submitted as part of the requirements for the award of the degree of Master of Medicine (M.Med) of the University of Dar-es-Salaam contains three parts. The first section consists of ten gynecological conditions that are encountered in day to day practice. The standard management of these conditions are described including a short commentary on one aspect of each condition in this and in the second section. The second section includes ten obstetric conditions which were managed according to the standard obtaining in this centre. The last part is a hospital based prospective and descriptive study, main objective being caesarean section and perinatal outcome. The study was carried out at the labour ward of the Muhimbili Medical Centre for a period of three months. Recommendations to improve perinatal outcome and cut hence down perinatal mortality are made.
