Item Establishment of factors affecting the adoption of design-build-transfer model towards improving urban housing: the case of Dar es salaam city(University of Dar es Salaam, 2010) Gibson, God wishesSince the world is experiencing a shortage of human settlements in most urban areas as its population is tremendously growing, measures to minimize the problem has to be taken. This study aimed at establishing factors affecting the adoption of the Design-Build-Transfer (DBT) model towards improving urban housing. Data on establishment of factors affecting the adoption of the model towards improving urban housing were collected from the stakeholders in the building industry. The findings indicate that awareness on DBT model issues were very high among stakeholders in our local industry of which more than 50% of the respondents have experience of more than 10 years. The study revealed that the model performs better than other models though its infancy in our construction industry. The study concludes that apart from stakeholders being aware with the DBT model their sources of information are not sustainable, they lack courage to apply the model and the project procurement systems do not encourage the application of the model in our local building industry. The study recommends the creation of awareness among stakeholders, introduction and application of the model with respect to urban housing as well as further study on legal, regulatory, procurement and financial aspects are inevitable.
