Assessing of ICT application and its role in enhancing performance of government executive agencies in Tanzania
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2006) Yakob, Phillymon L. T
The United Republic of Tanzania had decided to adopt the Executive Agencies (EAs) model of organisations in 1997. This research was conducted with objectives of finding out how much the EAs have gained since the introduction of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in their work places. Establishment of EAs in Tanzania was made purposely to improve, increase efficiency and to reduce time wasted and hence to provide smooth services to the public. To be successful in all these elements, the application of ICT was inevitable. Based on this understanding, this study is sought to examine how ICTs has been deployed in EAs, to assess both performance for ICT deployment in EAs and impacts of ICT including identifying constraints that face ICT application in Tanzania. Eight EAs were selected for the study, relevant data were collected and analysed using Microsoft excel software. Most of the EAs had been found to have moderate educated staff, and about 67.5% had a working experience of 1-5 years. ICTs application was necessary because the EAs are geographically distributed. Uses of computers among these agencies was found to be 60% and that three quarter depends on the computer in performing their duties. Finally, the researcher ended up by giving recommendation for the EAs to maximize usage of ICT facilities to enhance performance of their activities
