Modelling of mixed convection non-darcy boundary layer flow with radiative heat transfer over a horizontal surface in a porous medium
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2015) Thobias, Anthony
The mixed convection non Darcy boundary layer flow with radiative heat transfer over a horizontal surface in a porous medium is investigated. The boundary layer partial differential equations are converted into a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The transformed ordinary differential equations are then reduced to a system of first order nonlinear differential equations which are solved numerically using the shooting method in conjunction with the fourth order Runge-Kutta method implemented in a MATLAB computer program. The effects of physical parameters for some selected values on the dimensionless stream wise velocity and the temperature distributions in the boundary layer, the local skin friction, the heat transfer and buoyancy induced pressure all at the wall are studied and presented graphically. It is observed that both the dimensionless stream wise velocity and the temperature distributions inside the boundary layer increase while the buoyancy induced pressure distribution decreases. Similarly, both the local skin friction and the buoyancy induced pressure at the wall increase while the heat transfer at the wall decreases. All these effects are brought into being by the increase in the radiative heat transfer.
