Influence of employees rewarding system on employee job performance a case of architects and quantity surveyors registration board in Dar es Salaam
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2014) Sungura, Hamis Jumanne
This study assessed the influence of employees rewarding system on employee job performance in public service agencies in Tanzania, the case being the Architect and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQRB). Specific objectives of the study were to examine the procedures used to implement employee reward system in the government agencies, to find out challenges of implementing employee reward system in government agencies and to investigate employees‟ attitudes towards rewards management systems at AQRB. The study involved employees from AQRB. The sample size of my study comprised 68 respondents. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data were collected through documentary sources, questionnaires, and observation and it was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences for initial data analysis. The findings revealed that AQRB management sometimes comes out with a reward system and requires employees to accept them as they are. In addition, the study found out that transparency in compensation processes, offering rewards are not linked to employee performance and rewards systems not catering for insecurity of medical and health care services. These were the most three challenges that AQRB as a government agency faces. In addition, the study found that employees at AQRB have negative attitudes towards rewards management systems. From the findings of the study a number of recommendations are provided. Policy makers are urged to involve employees when designing reward system and to make sure that this information is shared equally among employees. Thus, employee involvement will address transparency challenges and change employees‟ attitudes.
