Modelling mixed convection heat transfer of a nanofluids flow in a vertical channel filled with porous medium
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2015) Suleiman, Sudi Hisabu
In this study a mathematical model for mixed convection heat transfer of nanofluid flow in a vertical channel filled with porous medium has been formulated by applying the principles of conservation of mass, conservation of momentum and conservation of energy. The study assumed that the flow is steady and incompressible, the nanofluid is a Newtonian fluid and has a constant thermal conductivity, the flow is in one dimension in the vertical channel and the buoyancy term due to volume fraction concentration is negligible. The governing equations were solved numerically using the fourth order Runge-Kutta combined with shooting technique and the graphical results are presented. The results are discussed to see the effects of different dimensionless parameters such as viscosity ratio, dimensionless pressure gradient parameter, dimensionless parameter for the Darcy number, mixed convection parameter, Brownian motion parameter, thermophoresis parameter and Brinkman number on the scaled velocity, scaled temperature and volume fraction together with skin friction, Nusselt number and mass transfer. The results indicate that the variation of the Brinkman number has a significant effect on the velocity, temperature distribution, volume fraction, skin friction, heat and mass transfer at the wall.
