    Improved accuracy on multipath exploitation-based localization of indoor target using single marginal antenna

    In recent years, indoor target localization has become an area of interest due to its diverse applications. In indoor target localization, surrounding environment creates multipath components, which can be exploited to aid in location process. A number of studies have been proposed to employ multipath exploitation in localizing indoor targets. However, the resulting localization errors, which cannot be tolerated in some applications including military, can still be improved. This study proposed a new localization model based on multipath exploitation techniques by using triangulation model. Using ultra-wide band signal target’s returns were resolved and the estimate of the target location was obtained using measured round-trip time delays. The location was determined by applying simple trigonometry on the triangle in which real radars and the target location are the vertices of the triangle in question. The target location was randomly selected and reconstructed using the proposed model and the results were compared with state-of-the-art model. Simulation results show that the model has improved the localization error over a wide range of timing errors, target locations and room sizes. The overall performance of the proposed model shows that there was 22.2% improvement against the localization model developed by Muqaibel et al. in 2017 on indoor localization using single marginal antenna.
