Customer perceptions on the quality of portland pozzolana cement class 32.5r: a case study of building contractors in Dar es Salaam
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2010) Shoo, Samuel Abimeleck
Despite various measures taken by Tanga Cement Company to produce products which can satisfy the needs and wants of its customers, most of the big construction projects in Dar es Salaam are not using its product, Portland Pozzolana Cement Class 32.5R. This problem has arisen due to the customers’ negative perception and dissatisfaction with the product. This work focused on the factors determining customer perceptions with a view to assessing what has influencing customers’ perceptions to Portland Pozzolana Cement Class 32.5R in Dar es Salaam market. This study was quantitative in nature and employed non- probabilistic convenient sampling techniques in sample selection. The study has established that customer perceptions on the quality of Portland Pozzolana Cement Class 32.5R are somewhat negative and customers are generally dissatisfied with this product. The major factor influencing customer perceptions on the product is knowledge and skills in the application of such product in different types of constructions, especially in big multi million shillings projects. To redress the situation, this study recommends that Tanga Cement Company provide training for contractors pertaining to the properties and use of this particular brand of cement in different applications. Doing so would help increase their knowledge on the product and boost its marketability. Increasing the awareness of the customers on the product through advertisement would also boost the technical knowhow for most of the cement users. In future, such a study could be extended to other regions to determine whether the same results in this study can be replicated.
