    The effectiveness of counselling service delivery on problem-dislosure and problem-coping behaviours among the preferred refugees: a case study of Umati refugees centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

    The effectiveness of counselling service delivery was studied among the referred refugees at UMATI refugees centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Ninety-three referred refugees willingly responded to a structured questionnaire while three UMATI practicing counsellors and the UMATI refugees centre coordinator responded to the structured interview schedules. In total, the study sample consisted of ninety-seven respondents. Mean values of items that measured similar concepts were computed for comparison. Counselling skills and problem-disclosure revealed a positive significant relationship that seemed to have been contributed by listening and probing skills. Non-directive counselling technique sub-scale was positively correlated with all types of problem-coping styles with exception of maladaptive style. However, the relationship between counselling environment and problem-disclosure was not significant. Problem-coping behaviour showed a statistical difference between referred refugees who had received counselling service and those who had not received such service managed to cope with problems than those who had not received such service. The study recommends that more emphasis should be put on the counselling service to the refugees. Further research should be done on the refugees' residential camps where many refugees who are psychologically affected could participate.
