    Some features of Tanzanian manufacturing industry

    Current economic thought in the country is partly vulgar political economy which deals only with the most superficial appearances of the economy and apologises for bourgeois society, and partly neo-Bernstein anis which tries to reconcile the antagonistic interests of the bourgeoisie and the proletariat by covering them up, in contradiction to Classical Political Economy which dissected bourgeois economy in a more or less scientific manner and Marxism which scientifically criticised political economy from the standpoint of proletarian revolution. Because of the hegemony of vulgar economy and neo-Bernstein anis in the country, mistakes in theory are coupled with mistakes in method so that current economic theory and research fail to deal with the most fundamental problems of the country’s economy. This dissertation departs from accepted theory and method and tries to unravel two important characteristics of the economy. The first characteristic the dissertation deals with is the private character of the Tanzanian manufacturing industry. Here I try to show that the assumption that the Tanzanian parastatal is socialist is misplaced, that on the contrary, government private partnership gives the parastatal not a socialist but a private capitalist character. The private character cannot be negated by the mere Fact of the sta to holding a 51 per cent shareholding in the company. In the second chapter I try to show that in spite of all illusions, Tanzanian manufacturing is essentially private. Even if it is assumed that fully government parastatals are not private, private and joint private government establishments account for the largest share of employment, product, wage bill as well as number of establishments. The second characteristic is that not only is Tanzanian manufacturing industry private but also largely Asian. Asians dominate in the ownership of establishments in practically all the sectors of the economy. This fact cannot but foreshadow ominous events in the country' s near future.Of the three national fractions of the bourgeoisie, the African, the European and the Asian, the African has been the most hit, and since the country is his, he will in inevitably react. Lastly in the third chapter, besides confirming and consolidate frog the arguments put forward in the preceding sections, The prove that there are millionaires in the country with wide ranges of businesses who also work in most cases in close collaboration and partnership with the government and/or the parastatals. This type of research has never been undertaken in the country before.
