Mathematical modelling of impact of education on average age at the first marriage
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2011) Seif, Fatwa Said
In this study non linear model is applied to study the impact of education on the average age at the first marriage. A mathematical model for the distribution of average age at the first marriage in Tanzania is established and effect of education on the year at first marriage is estimated for years 1999 and 2003/04 Linearization of the model and least square method was used in order to estimate parameters. The estimation employed SPSS and STATA Software’s Both descriptive analysis and model estimate shows that education level and education attainment positively affect average age at first marriage. This was expected but the study goes further to establish the magnitude of these effects. It was established that as one attains further studies. her age at first marriage is delayed. The model validation was presented graphically by using STATA code and they were presented to illustrate the validity of the model where the proportion of ever married p(a,x1,x1) fitted closely to the empirical data It is therefore recommended that appropriate for the government to formulate policies which will encourage girls to pursue further studies. This will prevent them from early marriages and its consequences associated with early marriages.
