    Ten surgical cases
(University of Dar es Salaam, 1985) Sayi, Enock Ndoganije
This dissertation consists of ten different surgical conditions divided into three parts. Parts one consists of five general surgery conditions; part two, three urology and part three, two orthropaedics and trauma conditions. The conditions selected are one of the commonest problems encountered in our environment. The author was fully involved in the management of these conditions. Apart from the statistical data which reflects the magnitude of the problem, a case report is presented for illustration and a review of relevant literature is discussed in all conditions. The five general surgery conditions consist of three emergency cases namely burns, splenic and hepatic traumatic injuries and two malignant cases which are the carcinoms of the oesophagus and that of the breast in the traumatic hepatic injuries, a case of traumatic haemobilia has been presented in detail. The three urology conditions are the benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), carcinoma of the prostate and the carcinoma of the urinary bladder. The association of Schistosoma haematobium infection to the causation of squamous cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder has been noted. The Orthopaedics / Trauma cases are the chronic osteomyelitis which is one of the commonest bone affections encountered at our Centre. The supracondylar fractures of the humeres are one of the commonest fractures seen at the Centre particularly in children.
