Students’ satisfaction in accessing university services in Tanzania: the case of universities in Dar es Salaam region
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2015) Saqware, Godfrey Joseph
Research on Students’ Satisfaction in Accessing Universities Services in Tanzania was done at UDSM, OUT and UoB. The main objective of the study was to examine the relationship between overall students’ satisfaction and the University services. The sample of 384 students were interviewed via questionnaires and some of the data were collected from University data system and discussion made with teaching staff. In the analysis, the study has two sections. One of the sections has been devoted for data description and the other for hypotheses testing and their corresponding models. The findings shows that 51% of the respondents said were satisfied while 49% of the respondents said were not satisfied with the university services and the rest of the variable were well described. The academic variables experienced positive correlation among themselves while for non-academic variables some falls in both categories i.e. negatively and positively correlated to each other. The hypotheses have been tested by performing Chi-square test and Likelihood ratio test to determine the significance and the association/relationship between dependent and independent variables. In the three hypotheses tested, the result showed that there is relationship between University services and the general students’ satisfaction while that relation does not exist between demographic variables of the students and general students’ satisfaction. The study employed Logistic regression technique in analyzing the variables that were significantly associated with the general students’ satisfaction in order to find out the state of dependency of these variables. Eventually, it is recommended that same study should be carried out at different Universities in Tanzania to access students’ satisfaction with the University services and come up with the concrete solutions to address the issue.
