Statistical analysis of factors influencing employee engagement at university of Dar es Salaam: the case of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere Mlimani Campus.
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2018) Rutaigwa, Edmundi
Employee Engagement needs to be addressed but only a few studies have been conducted in African universities on the issue, hence the aim of this study was to analyze the factors influencing Employee Engagement at the University of Dar es Salaam: The case of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere Mlimani campus. The study employed a cross-sectional design. A total of 453 employees were selected by using Stratified random Sampling and Two Stages random Sampling. A self-administered semi-structured questionnaire was used in data collection. EpiData version 3.1 software was used for data entry and statistical packages: IBM SPSS ver.20 and STATA ver. 13.1 were used for analysis. Analysis used Cronbach’s alpha, the cumulative percentage scores and Canonical Correlation Analysis and tables and graphs were used in presenting the results. The response rate was 90% also the Cronbach’s alpha values for Employee Engagement, job resources, employee’s work attitude and employee’s organization attitude were 0.514, 0.710, 0.714 and 0.781 respectively. The findings showed that Employee Engagement level was 44.9%. Inferential analysis results showed that all canonical models were statistically significant at 1% level and in all models there was a single relationship among the observed variables. The canonical correlation coefficients of canonical models: 1, 2 and 3 were 0.4092, 0.5152 and 0.4686 respectively indicating that the extent of relationships among observed variables were moderate. It was concluded that an employee being engaged at work was related by job resources and employee’s work-organization attitude. It was also recommended that a longitudinal study design should be implemented so as to track Employee Engagement level and make relevant decisions on factors related with it since Employee Engagement level is not static.
