Teenagers’ pregnancies: a case study of Kiboriloni ward in Moshi Municipality
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2006) Richard, Belinda
The purpose of this study was to investigate the causes of teenager pregnancies at Kiboriloni Ward in Moshi Municipality. My scope of the study focused on teenager girls who became pregnant and what were the causes of the pregnancies. It went further to study the health administration of such teenager girls and their babies, and the role of the government and community social bodies with regards to teenagers’ pregnancies. It also touched on school authorities and the community in general with regards to the situation within the community. The method of the study was to select houses randomly and make visits to them in search for girls who to primary and secondary schools, dispensaries, health centres, and the government hospital in the area. The social welfare offices were also visited and the officers were interviewed. My study established that the causes of teenagers’ pregnancies were due to poverty, influenced by peer groups, girls seeking for marriages, faced several problems and the main problems which they face were psychological impact, economic and health problems.
