    Impact of access to Universal Communication Services to rural and urban under-served areas in Tanzania: the case of Dar es Salaam and Dodoma

    Research problem. The research problem for this study is to find out the Impact of access to Universal Communication Services to people living in rural and urban under¬served areas of Tanzania. The Case of Dar es Salaam and Dodoma. Methodology used. The paper is based on in-depth literature review and survey that was conducted among the people living in rural and urban under-served areas in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma. Canonical Correlation Analysis was used in analysing data. Findings. Access to Universal Communications Services has impacts to people living in rural and urban areas of the country. Among the key predictors to the impacts include access to mobile phones, radio and internet. Television and Computers did not contribute much to the impact. Conclusion. The research findings conclude that access to Universal Communication Services has huge impacts to societies in removing extreme poverty and hunger, improving education and increasing business opportunities. For this to happen, people need to be ready to absorb various opportunities that are surrounding the universal communication services. Recommendations. To have real impacts of access to universal communication services, all citizens in the country must be prepared to embrace changes. The Government should ensure that telecommunication infrastructures are rolled out throughout the country. ICT equipments should continue to have Tax cut so as to promote more usage among the youth and poor people. Also, youths should be trained in using ICT so that our country become hub for knowledge base service in near future.
