    Modeling the role of early detection and sanatorium usage in reducing tuberculosis transmission

    A Mathematical model incorporating early detection of TB cases and sanatorium usage is formulated and analysed in order to determine the role of early detection and treatment in a sanatorium. The model assumes that the exposed individual progress to active TB due to endogeneous reactivation and the exogenous re- infection. The model has two infectious classes, the undetected and the detected infectious individuals. All detected individuals are isolated in a sanatorium for immediate treatment and education. Both numerical and qualitative analyses of the model are performed and the role of early detection and treatment in a sana-torium on the di_erent state variables was determined. Qualitative results show that the model has the disease-free equilibrium which is locally asymptotically stable for Re < 1 and at least one endemic equilibrium that is locally asymptoti-cally stable provided that Re > 1. Simulation of di_erent epidemiological classes found that as the rate of early detection is improved the exponential decrease of the population of undetected infectious is observed. Most of the individuals undergoing treatment in a sanatorium join the recovered class. Thus, the study recommend that the emphasis has to be made on improving early case detection rates and isolation of detected infectives for supervised treatment and education
