(University of Dar es Salaam, 2005) Otaru, Monica Peter
This research is about the law and practice on handling of juveniles in conflict with the law. It is divided into five chapters: The first chapter provides a general framework of the research whereby hypotheses are identified; the second chapter highlights the general theories of juvenile delinquency in conjunction with common causes of delinquency in the country. A historical background of emergence and development of juvenile justice system is also highlighted; An analysis of various laws, policies and practice on prevention of delinquency as well as treatment and protection of delinquents internationally as well as nationally is analyzed in chapters three and four respectively. Various stakeholders' efforts in the wake of ensuring that the juvenile justice system works properly and effectively are recognized. Finally, there are recommendations and a conclusion. The findings of the research indicate that even though there are discrepancies in the overall administration of juvenile justice, the system is not completely ignored by neither the Government nor other identified stakeholders.
