(University of Dar es Salaam, 1995) Oheda, Bubaker O. A.
Swahili slang popularly known as "Kiswahili cha Mitaani" has long been noticed by Swahili scholars. However, up to now very little research has been undertaken to study it. The present research focuses on Swahili slang in the city of Dar es Salaam. Specifically, the study seeks to establish who uses Swahili slang to whom, when, where and under what circumstances. The organization of the study is as follows: Chapter one provides the setting in which several matters are introduced including statement of the problem, objectives, significance and hypothesis of the study as well as research methodology. Chapter two is a review of literature related to Swahili slang in particular. Chapter three presents and discusses the data of the research. Chapter four discusses several aspects of Swahili slang including its grammatical aspects. Chapter five summarises the research and concluding word.
