    Evolving a GPS-GIS-mobile application prototype for improving precision and response time for accidents: a case study of Dar es Salaam city

    Traffic accidents which may involve damages, injuries, and sometimes deaths need efficient and effective rapid and timely communication mechanism between numerous stakeholders/agencies leading to proper traffic accident information exchange so as to reduce the reporting and response time for the accident incident, preventing further accidents and enhancing the safety of both road users and responders. The main objective of this research was to evolving a GPS-GIS-Mobile application prototype for improving precision and response time for accidents. The methodology and procedure for data collection employed in the study was based on the triangulation methodology within a framework of a case study approach. The study considered using triangulation due to the fact that, it broadens the research and at the same time strengthens the validity of the research. However: Interviews, focus group discussions, observations and review of secondary data were the primary methods for data collection in this study. The system delivered to the users for an acceptance testing. The acceptance testing was basically done by the users and other stakeholders. Based on the study findings, 41.7% of road users agreed that the system improved to a great extent the time taken to report the traffic accident incidents, while 58.3% of accident responders (police, fire fighters, etc) were satisfied with the performance of the system in terms of the amount of time needed for reporting and time spent by the team of responders to access an accident site
