Determinants leading to employees turnover in public organization: a case of Tanzania automotive technology centre (TATC)
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2010) Nungu, Mselenga
The objective of this study is to investigate the determinants leading to employee turnover in Public Organization in Tanzania. Tanzania Automatic Technology Centre (TATC) is used as a case study. In this study, data were collected from the questionnaire survey. A sample of 60 respondents was expected, but only 53 returned the questionnaires which form 88.33% of the response rate. The survey data was analyzed by using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) tool to identify variables significantly leading to employee turnover at TATC. The study revealed that employee turnover at TATC is caused by two factors, management controllable factors (including inadequate compensation package, lack of involvement in decision making, lack of promotion and training opportunities, poor working environment and factors which are beyond management control (including perceived alternative employment and social economic factors). The major limitation of the study is that it is not test relationship of variables since it employed qualitative techniques. Future research should utilize quantitative method so as to test relationship of variables so as to identify the association of variables time limit and scarcity of respondents, the study was confused to the existing employees, even though the intention was also to cover the ones who quit the organization. Another study should extend the sample size to other public and private organization to enhance comparative analysis and yield more findings. Despite the limitations this study provides a good guidance to TATC in order to put in place more effective means of minimizing the problem of turnover in the organization.
