Data collection techniques that were used included; questionnaire, interview, textual analysis and documentary survey. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively while quantitative data were processed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences and then analysis. This study found that water shortage in Gairo district affects socio-economic wellbeing of Gairo dwellers. This situation is attributed to poor infrastructures, population growth, breaking of pipes and water theft, inadequate funds to initiate water project, poor management of water projects and improper utilization of funds and drought. With regard to the critical role of water on households wellbeing of the Gairo‟s dwellers, the study, therefore, recommends that, improvement of water infrastructures should be coupled with existing population, education to citizens on protection of water infrastructures and environment, over all involvement of citizens and private sector in water projects and also donor institutions should play their supportive roles in the improvement of the provision of water in Gairo districts.
