A microprocessor implementation of an equilizer
(University of Dar es Salaam, 1992) Nkondola, Aggrey Julius
In this dissertation, the implementation of an adaptive and a non-adaptive equalizer using a microprocessor is presented. This equalizer is earmarked to perform in a telephone system. In some case, heavy amplitude distortions are experienced in telephone channels which vary considerably with the frequency of the transmitted signal. It important therefore to take care of such distortion by introducing electric networks in the channel to correct the distorted signal. An equalizer in general, is being widely used for reducing the distortions in data channels. The amplitude-frequency characteristic has to be flattened for better transmission and greater efficiency of the communication system. In this implementation, mathematical representations of the equalizers are found in an elaborate design from which the software expressing the different functions of the microprocessor implemented equalizers are developed. In performing this implementation, the equalizer systems are first simulated and after obtaining the expected results of a flat amplitude frequency response, implementation is done. In the microprocessor implementation, various experiments are performed using the assembler language program. The simulation and experimental results show that the desired flay amplitude responses were obtained.
