Job motivation in Tanzanian public sector: a case study of the public service pensions fund
(University of Dar es Salaam, 2009) Njeje, Luseshelo
This study assesses the overall level of job motivation among employees working under the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF). It had three specific objectives as follows. First, it examines relationships between the PSPF employees’ characteristics with work motivation. Second, identify underlying factors of work motivation and their relative importance. Third, determine the employees’ level of job motivation. The study involved a total of 60 respondents selected from various categories of employees. Data were mainly collected by the use of questionnaires and documentary reviews. The study noted that employees at PSPF were mostly motivated with pay package, incentives and personal performance characteristics related to job. Employees are willing to give the best to the organization in return of getting more responsibilities, authority and making them working independently. They were mostly dissatisfied with working environment, management and feedback and evaluation mechanism. The study gave recommendations to the PSPF management and to the Public Service Management which is in the President’s Office on matters that could be handled in order to create more job motivating environment among employees at PSPF and public sector at large.
